The Yakan are an indigenous Muslim tribe to the tropical island of Basilan, Philippines. Located in the Sulu Archipelago in the most southern region of the Philippines. Yakan people are known for creating technicolor geometric handwoven textile.
Ramit fabric is a textile woven on a backstrap loom by the Mangyan community. Historians often refer to the Mangyan as the masters of traditional weaving, creating intricate geometric patterns. In the past, it was made from homespun cotton which was then indigo-dyed. Today, the thread used for making the ramit is purchased from local stores.
